The project leveraged various social media platforms to share its activities, milestones, and campaigns with a global audience. The primary focus was on LinkedIn and TikTok, which provided complementary opportunities for professional engagement and creative outreach.

LinkedIn played a pivotal role in communicating the activities and milestones of the Named after Nelson project to a global audience during 2024. With over 30 posts shared throughout the year, the platform enabled consistent engagement with the community, fostering awareness and dialogue around the project’s objectives. The majority of these updates were authored by Yolandi Burger. These posts generated approximately 1,200 engagements and 39,800 impressions. Furthermore, Yolandi’s network on LinkedIn expanded significantly, growing by 552 connections during 2024.

The podcasts featured in this section are the product of a collaborative effort involving colleagues from the Graphic Design Department in the School of Design and Creative Arts and the AI in Education Department in the School of Computer Science at Loughborough University, in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation. This collaboration leverages AI innovation to create child-focused podcasts that tell the stories of places named after Nelson Mandela.

A short video production of the UX Sprint of the Umsuka platform as part of the “Placemaking through Mandela’s Graphic Heritage” project, which was funded by the UKRI/Newton Fund Consolidation grant (AH/S003398/1). This was an exploratory collaboration prior to the NaN project.

This short film presents an overview of the research impact project “Placemaking through Mandela’s Graphic Heritage” as part of the “Memorialising Mandela in the Metropolis” research initiative. The project tested the concept of graphic heritage with archival practitioners, heritage professionals, and creative industry specialists in South Africa.
